Owen Brown
I started Franchise Tag to share my football ideas.
I was not sure what type of ideas I would share, what conversations I wanted to have, or what type of football mind I wanted to be.
I just knew I loved football and sought to build a history of work to support my football portfolio.
Over the course of the 2024-2025 NFL season, my opinions and tenets developed.
I have ideas to share, I am seeking conversations to have, and I understand the football mind I am.
If you’re reading this page, you might be a friend, you might be a colleague, you might have just met me at a conference or online.
Thank you for being here.
I strive to be someone you meet and never forget. Someone you meet and think, “that kid’s going places.”
Someone you meet and decide, “I want NEED him on my team.”
That means I am going to conduct myself in a certain way. A way that might raise some eyebrows, that may be off-putting to some. But also, a way that could get me the attention and exposure I need. This is a calculated risk I am taking; I know I need to make a real impression to meet my goal:
I am going to be an NFL Salary Cap analyst
I endorse a very specific approach to roster building, where increased attention is given to market dynamics and salary cap.
I have a set of tenets and principles I am developing and aim to fully publish and develop. But my current cliffnotes are:
- Follow a good process, and success will find you.
- Salary is a scarce and fixed resource, and must be treated as such.
- Lean into market dynamics to manufacture value.
- Zig when others zag. The league is cyclical, it will work out.
- Trust simple correlational values.
The Plan:
- Build a portfolio of football research, ideas, and skills to share with those I connect with.
- Connect with other great minds in the industry.
- Conduct myself with confidence, humility, and poise to form deep connections.
- Leverage my connections and skills into a salary cap analyst position in an NFL front office.
- Continue to build my portfolio of skills, projects, and connections.
The goal is not to be an excellent scout. The goal is to be an excellent strategist and resource allocator, who trusts his scouts to select the right pieces.
I know what role I want to fill. I know who I am. And I hope those factors lead to my success.
Thank you,
Owen Brown
